Is Sentinel worth buying?
We just had sentinel come in today for clearance. It will work out to about $18 AU. It looks to me like a first person adventure game, and I haven't played any of these except for the Nancy Drew games. I like everything about those games, except for the stupid puzzles that involving moving levers and silly stuff like that.
I'm poor, but am trying to catch up after not playing any new adventure games for a few years, so I like to get my hands on whatever I can. So would any of you guys recommend this game?

I haven't played the full game yet, but it's safe to say that if you are appalled by mechanical puzzles, Sentinel isn't for you. It's a very puzzle-heavy adventure.

Sentinel is amass with puzzles, mostly the mechanical kind. The idea of the game is that you are trying to get past obstacles set up by AI to protect a tomb. It was certainly worth buying for me, since this type of game is right up my alley.
Given your comments, though, I really don't think you will enjoy this game. So save your $ and put it toward something a little less puzzle intense.
