Amber - I need it bad

Why is not Amber: Journeys Beyond available anymore? Having just played the demo i feel a desperate need to get my hands on this game.:frusty:

I really don´t feel like having to pay fortune on eBay for a secondhand copy of Amber, this game should be available to all.
Dude, wouldn´t it be great if it was rereleased!:)

If you´re feeling curious about Amber, then i suggest you download the demoversion at www.gamershell.com or read the review here at AG http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,7

It's a pretty old game (1996), so secondhand and/or looking at the discount bins for the game would be your best way of obtaining it. Also, the system requiements may be a bit old for your current computer so consider that too.

Many people either loved or hated the game. Personally, I loved it but have since traded it away. ;)

Dasilva 12-28-2005 09:20 AM

Can't you buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...e&s=videogames ?

rtrooney 12-28-2005 03:20 PM

What Lady Linda said. Although if you could play the demo on your current computer, there's no reason to think you couldn't play the game itself.

You might want to modify your Location. While "Beyond" is good, if somebody has a game, there's no way to know whether it's practical to try and get it to you. The price quoted on the Amazon link is way higher that what I originally paid from a CompUSA bargain bin. Which was about $5

There´s only one gamestore in my town, and i already dug thru their discount bins, i managed to find lots of cool old adventure games.:)
No Amber, though.

Amazon won´t ship the game outside of America, a shame since i live in Sweden.

I found a couple of sites. A site for technical support is

Perhaps there is a way to purchase a download of the game.

A word of warning: If I remember correctly, Amber: Journeys Beyond is one of the few games that WILL NOT work on XP, no matter how much tweaking you do to your system (not even Compatibility Mode) :(

I happened to stumble upon a used copy of this game a few months ago when I went up north on a camping trip (it cost $15 CDN, though). It still worked great on my older PC running Win98! Nice game, fairly short and easy. :)

Sadly for me this wasn't the case with TLJ

Are you sure this won't run on Windows XP? Can it be played with DOSBOX or an emulator? I hope so! I am bidding on a copy!

Please Listen Here Carefully!!

I think that I have Amber somewhere thrown in my house, please post your address P.O. Box so I can send it to you if I find it.

But I just want to say a few things:

- If you are not used to playing old games just don't think highly of Amber, Whenever I see it I compare it with Myst then I just hate it!!
- Don't listen to anybody telling you that Amber works with XP, it's absloutley impossible! The game uses a certain quicktime file that is embeded with Win 98. I tell you I've tried everything! It doesn't work on XP!!
- I think someone commented on TLJ demo not working on XP. It works but I think you just need to change the link's target address to the main game .exe.
- One last advice...I live in UAE and Amazon doesn't ship games to us either but I'll teach you a trick that we do here. Just rent a PO Box in the US and let them ship it there. Then get a courrier service to ship it to Sweden. I know it's not practical but this is the only way I know!!

Amber will play in Virtual PC (you need a copy of Win9x/ME to install in it) in Windows XP.

Virtual PC is a product that has to be purchased separately though and isn't cheap...

I´ve got Windows XP, and strangely enough the demo worked for me.
Dunno if the regular game will work, though.;(

That´s a good suggestion.Seems bit complicated and expensive, though.

It won't. Not if you don't use Virtual PC, that is. I have never gotten around to trying that.

;) Hope you enjoy it........

If you should figure out a way to get it to run, I got my copy back from that guy.
