Default Sanitarium Movie?

Call me ignorant but I never realised there was a movie based on Sanitarium.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361507/

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...venturegame-20

Has anyone seen it?

Don't you think it's just a movie that coincidentally has the same name?
The plot of the movie doesn't really resemble the VG plot.

Apparently the plot is similar in essence, according to one reader-reviewer at least. I could be wrong though as I haven't seen the movie.

"A generation ago, Dr Max Warick was researching a mysterious experimental drug which was scientifically proven to cure certain types of madness. But as the most deranged test subjects miraculously regained their sanity, the control patients, who were given no drugs at all, suffered horrific consequences. Because no one could find the cause of such deadly side effects, the experiments were stopped. But now twenty years later, a new set of hospital officials are about to release the drug into the marketplace. And the only man who can prevent this terror from eating away at the masses has since traded in his lab coat for a straight jacket."

It's EXACTLY the same plot, even the names are similar.

I found Sanitarium a good game it just didn't take that long to finish. Can't imagine how they could turn it into a movie.

My fault, it has been a while since I played this marvelous game, and at first sight the description on imdb didn't ring a bell for me. However, it seems to me that the plot on imdb for the movie reveals certain aspects you will only learn at an advanced stage in the game.

I'm not sure if it would make a good movie or not. I'd certainly prefer it as a game, but the story was very cinematic by nature. I'd watch it... just as long as they got better acting for the movie.

Sounds like the movie bears a few similarities to the game but is neither based on, nor inspired by the game. And vice versa.

It's kind of like the similarities between Angel Heart and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers IMHO.

There is a similarity of name (Max) and the experimental drug thing does sort of chime as well. But otherwise this is nothing like the game

Spoiler:
The lead character in the game is not really in a mental home but in a mental construct in a coma after a serious car accident.

The film plot has nothing about travelling through alternate realities, a central part of the game.

In the game the lead character has discovered a new drug to cure a disease which is currently only being treated by the drugs his boss wants to continue selling.

At no point is this new drug ever noted as having side-effects on the patients, let alone those nearby.

The key part of the game plot is about SUPPRESSING the experimental drug (so his boss can carry on selling the old drugs), not releasing it into the market.

The experimental drug in the game is intended to cure a debilitating disease of children, not mental patients.

and those are just differences from recalling playing the game some time ago. I'm sure it would be possible to come up with more if I replayed it. I think it has to be a coincidence of title.
