Well, in essence I said that the development of the heritability of the fief by the vassal's heirs was accompanied by the development of its alienability by the vassal. And I think that the most important part is, that such alienation sometimes took the form of subinfeudation, that is, the enfeoffment of a subvassal. (emphasis mine)
