You are right. 16 : 9 is becoming the standard I think. But there are still more 16:10 displays today.

According to this site over 30% of all displays are 4:3 (for example 1024x768), a little bit less than 30% are 16:10 (for example 1280x800 and 1440x900) and about 10% are 16 : 9
Of course these are all the displays out there and gamers usually got better gear than average users. But 16:10 is still up front (mainly because it was the standard ratio for notebook screens for a couple of years).
We are working on a solution to provide graphics without borders from 16 : 9 to 5:4. I will be part of our next game (after The Critter Chronicles).
