When you've gained access to the entire asylum you can even go back to the guy who was guarding your cell door at the beginning of the game, and show him all the objects you've picked up. Just for fun.
I loved scribbling on virtually everything with sometimes unexpected results, although Edna does have a tendency to repeat herself. But you should definitely use the pen on the potted plant in the tv room. And on the door on the second floor... and on the sofa in the recreation room, the sign near the telephone, the fingerfood...
