Marketing has a SERIOUS PART in determining how commercially successful a game can be. Marketing is part of the game's
overall quality. You can make the most amazing game in history but if you don't market it strategically and aggressively it's worthless 'cause it won't make money - and forget about that sequel.
So yeah, if I were a developer/publisher I'd sure as hell would want a lot of investment in marketing, and on licensing depending on how well the IP does.
