A "rare" book may only be rare because an author self-published, and only sold one or two copies. It's "rare" only because nobody bought it.
Ditto for games. Just because nobody bought the game doesn't make it rare. It only makes it a commercial failure.
My definition of "rare" is a game that had some critical acclaim, e.g., FPFP, but is very hard to find with original packaging, documentation, etc.
I tossed my KQ 5.25's in the trash many years ago. Yes, you can buy them on CD, but the very originals, with original packaging, I would think of as reare.
