I think that the people (usually not Americans) that dislike the narration in GK1 are thrown off by the accent. Perhaps they expect a generic "Southern accent", when there are many different variations, especially around the Delta, where there are several ethnic groups, including the Cajuns and the Creoles, each of which have their own distinct accent, if not out and out dialect. Her Creole accent may not sound authentic to someone that only expects that generic "Southern accent".
