Believe me, it has many layers of meaning and significance, if you know how to decode filmic codes. Pay it to Viggo, he had a LOT of intellectual and creative involvement in it. A very disturbing look at how we Americans are psychologically as a people.

Like I said, many people who were expecting the usual entertaining violent suspense thriller didn't get it. They weren't looking for anything other than what Mortensen and Cronenberg delivered.
