Very true. However, some cell phone plans such as the one my S/O has offer "free text messaging", as in text messages don't count against one's monthly allotment of minutes, so texting becomes a lot more attractive in that light. Only the fact that I'm basically a polite and tolerant person has kept me from slapping his hand, handing him my phone, and saying "Oh for God's sake, just call them and tell them what you want to say!" when he's busily hammering out a text message in a restaurant.
