300 had a lot of slow-mo decapitations, which is fine, except that there was zero substance. It was basically a complete butchery of the story of the Battle of Thermopylae.
Snakes was completely entertaining. Samuel Jackson is awesome, so it was naturally great.

It's not based on the battle...its based on the graphic novel 300 which in turn is based on the movie The 300 Spartans...its historical fiction not nonfiction.
