Good authors, too; I'm a huge fand of E.T.A. Hoffmann and just finished reading Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination.
Can't contribute much to the topic, I'm afraid, since I haven't played many spooky adventures. I have encountered a ghost and some supernatural references in The Cameron Files: Loch Ness. Also, you might want to look into Necronomicon (first person horror adventure) and Dracula: Resurrection resp. Dracula: Last Sanctuary. Phantasmagoria is, I think, a must, and from your avatar and signature I'd guess you have already included the GK series
