Out of curiosity, are you in N. America, Europe or elsewhere?
My download was slow (4.5 - 5 hrs. for a 1.2 GB file - this will be sped up soon so that shouldn't be an issue for long). When I went to activate my game, I ended up using a manuel activation code (which went pretty smoothly) as I could never get in contact with the activation servers with my serial number.
