1. I can't say that I really know enough about it to form an opinion, but to make a decision, I think I'll fall on the side of "yes", as I'm fairly sure I've heard a piece of jazz that I liked.
2. Yes. Intelligent people with logical reasoning skills deserve respect, even if their opinions do not.
