I thought just the opposite about the Atlantic, until I lived near it. I expected cold grey water with big waves, but around Tybee Island Georgia the Atlantic is bathwater warm, chocolate milk-colored (until you get out from the beach a ways), and as waveless as a mill pond unless there's a storm coming in.
I was even able to go in swimming one year on my Mom's birthday (March 20th) because the water temp was 80 degrees that day. Of course the air temperature was only in the mid 60s, so I almost froze my hoo-hoo off once I got
out of the water, but still...
