I myself am getting a bit tired of all those 'stunning graphics' that look so much alike. But maybe that's just my taste in games

Anyway, a new style like you propose certainly is refreshing. The only thing that I miss is colour, and that is hard to implement in the style you propose. I know the style well BTW; I practically grew up with the Good News Bible.
