I hated the first one. I gave it so many tries but each attempt I was so bored by the time I'd opened the back gate for the first town.
I did download the DS2 demo but I haven't played it for more than 20 minutes, it struck me as nearly identical to the first one in play style, just fancier graphics and movies with a few conversations tacked on.

Neither struck me as diablo killer. If I could work out how to map all my skills individually to direct keys, as I can in D2, then I might enjoy the game more.
If I'm going to play a hack and slasher I prefer more tangible control of my character(s) rather than just pointing them towards mobs and letting the AI control my character.

If you enjoyed the 'pet' aspect of DS2 you might like to try Fate.
