OK, you've moderated some of my views (making this discussion productive!
). I'm not a fan of the schoolteacher analogy, though. I wouldn't like being told off for performing the action, but if I knew that whether or not I was punished was entirely at the discretion of the teacher I probably wouldn't have performed the action. Equally, you might not get stopped by the police if you speed while driving, but that doesn't mean that you should do it in case you get away with it...
Then again, I was a teacher's pet a while back.
