First trailer, details offer glimpse into Twin Mirror

DONTNOD waded into young adult fiction with 2015's hit Life Is Strange, but with today's announcement of Twin Mirror, it's clear that the French developer's next adventure promises to be much more adult fare.

Twin Mirror tells the story of Sam, a "33-year old man recovering from a recent break-up" as he "returns to his hometown Basswood, West Virginia, for the funeral of his best friend. Understandably depressed and bitter, he feels completely out of sorts and out of place... But when he wakes up in his hotel room with a bloody shirt and no memory of his whereabouts the previous night, he embarks on a twisted investigation to find the truth." Players will need to help Sam "recall his memories and search for disparate clues in Basswood" to get to the bottom of this unusual mystery, "but remember... the clock is ticking."

Based on the early screenshots and trailer, the new game features the same realistic third-person 3D graphics as Life Is Strange. We don't know too much about gameplay so far, other than that Twin Mirror promises to be a "story-driven investigation game" that "explores the elements of choice and hypocrisy." Themes like "truth, duality, and polarity" all play important roles in a story where "memories, choices, and relationships will determine Sam’s complicated fate. As he comes to terms with heartbreak, homecoming, and the perpetual struggle of adulthood, Sam will need your help exploring a dark and emotional adventure where the line between truth and deception is blurred."

There is no firm target date for Twin Mirror just yet, but the game is due to arrive on PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime in 2019.
