I’ve yet to play Runaway 3 (though I bought it ages ago). If the game actually delivered on its promise to kill Brian, I might be more eager to play it.

(But supposedly it’s the best of the lot, so I’ll get to it eventually.)

I loved Runaway 3, but then again I loved the previous two games in the series too.
How can you not love a game with Groucho Marx-loook alike waiter and with a nuthouse warden who is a fat version of Elvis Presley?

How are the graphics for the game? Based on that screenshot, it looks like the characters are just pasted in, and the depth in the background feels off, somehow… Confused

Yeah. Pixel-shaders are under par, bump-mapping is lousy and implicit surface modeling is non-existent.

Don’t play Runaway 3. Rather go for this.

Don’t be like that. You know what I meant regarding the graphics…
Besides, it’s not like I won’t play the Runaway games (eventually - they’re pretty far down the list and I’m not making good progress).

The Runaway games all have amazing background art - which is then ruined by UGLY characters that doesn’t fit in at all. I’ve yet to see an adventure game with cellshaded characters that haven’t looked off and weird.

I think Runaway 1 has the best art overall (because cel-shaded characters doesn’t stick out as much), and Runaway 2 has the best background art. As for Runaway 3, it might be the best one in the narrative department but the art style is slightly different - closer to Pendulo’s early game Igor: Objective Uikokahonia (only in higher resolution).

Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale

I loved Runaway 3 - I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. I liked the other 2 well enough, 3 is my favourite. Thinking I’ll have to replay them soon.

The real problem with reality is the lack of background music.

Don’t be like that.

Sorry, I can’t help it. That’s the way I am: sarcasm & cynicism are my best pals.

The background art in Runaway 1 and 2 is bloody amazing in my opinion, especially Runaway 1 hit home with me since I’d been longing for a game with truly breathtaking background art since 1997, but I’ve never been too fond of the style the characters are drawn in. I don’t really mind the cell-shading though.

Runaway 3 has very nice background art aswell, but there were several screens that weren’t as thorough and detailed as one might expect from Pendulo. Also, the voice actor for Brian had changed to someone who sounded completely different, and there were other things aswell, suggesting Runaway 3 had a lower budget than the previous two. Not that the change of actor really bothered me, because I found the new Brian’s voice less annoying. Nonetheless it felt like playing a different character. Not that that really mattered to me either, I mean, Brian is like that guy who tries too hard to fit in, but never can, because he’s just too… well… Briany. He’d get cut at tryouts in “Dag’s favourite protagonists contest” anyway Tongue

Lol, I know what you mean Tongue

Anyway, I had fun with Runaway 3, it’s definately worth giving it a chance. It has better puzzle design than the previous two (not so much of the “you need that thing right there in front of you right now, but to get that thing you need this thing first, but to get this thing you gotta have that thing, and to get that thing, you must first get that other thing, after getting that other thing that other place, but to get that thing in the other place, you gotta…” if you catch my drift Tongue ). Not to mention that thing with the train.

Duckman: Can you believe it? Five hundred bucks for a parking ticket?
Cornfed Pig: You parked in a handicapped zone.
Duckman: Who cares? Nobody parks there anyway, except for the people who are supposed to park there and, hell, I can outrun them anytime.
