I know it’s fashionable to hate Myst V, but I actually found it really good. It’s true that Yeesha is annoying as hell, and the Bahro are Myst’s midichlorians, but I liked the new slate mechanics, which brought some much-needed fresh air to the game. And being able to actually move within the worlds in 3D was also a huge plus (and that was done without sacrificing the game’s looks, see above).

Never been a big fan of the Myst series, but gotta admit it has some breathtaking shots.

Actually Myst V as it seemed (obviously) that Rand wanted to create an Unprecedented experience with the Drawing on Slat (Game’s major Feature) but the Bugs the accompanied that mechanism made me not even try to finish it out of disappointment .

i remember that the major shock/turn-off came when i was dealing with third Slate’s drawing, and i just didn’t have any idea yet about it or this new place i arrived , i just stared and scrabbled some Lines over the slate haphazardly and (what you know!!) i beat this Part without going through it’s area entirely.

i jumped to Cyan Page and forums and it turned out to be a common bug but without any Patchs to fix (at least at the time) and that then i forgot about that game entirely until today.
i remember i enjoyed the Long Dvd the making of ALL the Myst Games/Parts that came with the box (very much) though Grin

Speaking as someone who has hated Myst since the first game I find this sentence to be highly presumptuous. It assumes that potential haters even remembered that Myst V existed. Tongue

Must say the visuals hold up pretty well for a last gen game.

I’m a great Myst fan. Loved all Myst games (mostly Riven). Myst 5 is the only one I hated through my heart. Nice graphics (with the exception of 3d models) and sounds. And that’s it. Infuriating story. Uninspiring riddles (most of them). A bad experience for me overall.

I’m one of those people who hated Myst V. Yeesha, that Esher bore, the Bahro, the whole slate concept, everything. Couldn’t bother to finish it. And that made me sad. It was a great series.

Now playing: ——-
Recently finished: don’t remember
Up next:  Eh…
Looking forward to:
Ithaka of the Clouds; The Last Crown; all the kickstarter adventure games I supported

I never got into this series. Played Myst for a bit, back in the 90s, and hated it. Skipped/avoided all others for years until I gave Uru a chance. Played and finished it, but didn’t like it very much, confirming my dislike for all things Myst.
Then I gave Myst yet another chance when they ported it for the DS. WORST… GAME… EVER!!!

Conclusion:

“Nice looking screenshot, but I hate that game despite never having played it!”

The only good game in this genre is Zork Nemesis, imo.

The only one I liked was the 4th one.

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

I’m with Kuru. I quite enjoyed the game, even though it was easily the worst of the series. I could never use the word “hate” together with any Myst game.

I’ve tried Myst and some of its sequels on numerous occations, because I’ve really tried to like it. I’ve seen Riven proclaimed as the greatest adventure of all time several places, and so I’ve really WANTED to like it, but for some reason it just doesn’t appeal to me. Ever since my first meeting with Myst in the early 90’s, my initial disappointment has made me reluctant to even try other first person perspective adventures (I know, I’m surely missing out on some great stuff), but I must admit, the series do display some beautiful screens.

Duckman: Can you believe it? Five hundred bucks for a parking ticket?
Cornfed Pig: You parked in a handicapped zone.
Duckman: Who cares? Nobody parks there anyway, except for the people who are supposed to park there and, hell, I can outrun them anytime.
