Hey all,

I'm currently working on a freeware indie adventure title, thought this looked like a good place for a shameless attempt to drum up some publicity:) Well, onto the spiel then.

Heartland of Darkness: The Homunculi

In short, Heartland of Darkness is a psychedelic horror adventure.
The story revolves around a young man who finds himself within the bowels of a hellish nighmare.
Not sure who to trust and dogged by horrific apparitions at every step, he must escape at all costs.
It's going to be a medium length game of around the 40-60 screens mark. Full soundtrack.

I don't want to give away much of the plot yet, as I want to get my box art done and nut out a few more details first. I should have a trailer finished by the new year.

"The curtain has been lifted. Time now to play your part in this tragedy! Smear the greasepaint over your face and whimper.
The Chamber of Horrors is simply a wooden box my friend. It's all just a mirror, not a miracle. Just think of this as therapy...
'The words rang inside my skull and then subsided. I lifted my eyelids and saw nothing but faces swirling,
jutting forth from every surface, stabbing at me like needles thrust into a straw doll.'"

There is advice all over the internet about how it "should" work. However, I have installed (on an XP Pro host) MS Virtual PC 2004 with my old copy of Win 95. The game loads, there's graphics and everything, but there's no sound in the movies.
This is the same for both Myst and Myst Masterpiece Edition. I've installed the versions of QT/DirectX that come bundled with them.
If it helps, it's probably a directsound issue - when running dxdiag, some of the sound tests play but some don't. This coincides with the fact that in the game, I can here some of the atmospheric noise but not others.

So, has anyone successfully done it? Has anyone encountered this particular problem? Will upgrading DX help, or is it more likely to screw the game up?

Too bad, the team was capable of finishing it (at least until the point i was there, before me and many others were let go). Too bad the funding was stopped and nothing else was found.

I think the company is not typically closed, but everyone who worked on the game isn't around any more. I was out with the last artist left from the company yesterday and he's working on some other project in a company some other members of the team made. And that is since last year or so.

Translation for non greek speaking guys:

He blames:
- the owner of track7 for having a low priority for Theseis and spending most of the company's money to other projects.
- the programmers and devs for having an attitude.

Other reasons:
- inexperience
- having set the goal to create the first big-budgeted 100% greek game and refusing to get help from more experiened foreign programmers
- not accepting European Union's money that they could have been offered to them for "the development of an innovative project".
- etc..

According to this post the devs need over 100,000 euros to finish the game, and thus they are forced to either cancel it or sell it to Sony that has expressed interest to publish it on PSP!!
Ok, there's a small memory in my head that is driving me mad. I remember about playing a Windows game (very cinematic and animated) Which was a fighting game. The thing is, all the characters were Adorable and cute pets. WHICH then transformed into mechanical animals. You fought a frog or some ugly creature as the main enemy, and used a sort of system to travel between stages. It was fairly comical, and animated in the zany way other games of the sort were (Say, toonstruck)

anybody have a clue on what the title of the game was? This is driving me mad!

Thanks in advance

If the simultaneous release scenario still holds, City Interactive's marketing department is either non-existent or staffed with non-professionals.

Playing through GK1 again and am on day 3, though I can't seem to move on despite having done everything that a guide I've since looked up has told me to do.

The only thing I could think of was that
Spoiler:
I didn't get the snake scale off the gypsy's scarf.

Does anyone happen to know if this is necessary to get? If so I suppose this is my problem sooo, any way around this...? :frown:

EDIT: Nevermind, seemed like I just needed to
Spoiler:
solve the clock puzzle at Grandma's house.

I didn't realise it was time to do this yet as I wasn't aware of the clues to solve it (I just got the solution from the walkthrough). So what was the clue for solving it...? Man I feel so thick right now...

Slightly Deranged is my new blog about cult movies and games. The plan is to review the lesser known stuff before it fades into oblivion. Of course, one of my primary focus is going to be adventure games! Also, I have lots of eccentric and bizarre movies to share, mostly of the horror genre. If that's also your thing, then you're in for a real treat.

In a devilishly clever scheme to gain traffic, I will be also posting exclusive inside scoop about the upcoming horror adventure I’m working on. It will be announced sometime next year and I promise it will make you all curl into fetal position and sob uncontrollably.

Anyway, here is the link:

Slightly Deranged

Also on Facebook... because everybody is now on Facebook!

Facebook | Slightly Deranged
And hope to see you there! :D
