Comment on Women's Murder Club: Games of Passion article:
The Oberon/Patterson games have been hit or miss since the begining.
Death in Scarlet was a good start. Darker Shade of Grey left me wanting. Twice in a Blue Moon was, to my way of thinking, excellent.

From the review, the latest effort would seem to be a step back.

Hard to to know what to think.

One thing is sure, Oberon has limited distribution of its games to those sites that will charge the full price. No $6.99 on BigFish!

I think I will take a pass on this one!

Just finished it...
I wouldn't say it is a scary game, instead It has a dark eerie atmosphere...
You are not all alone there ,and from time to time you get the chance of talking to someone...
Playing it at night with lights off & high volume is quite a chilling experience....
The best thing here is the soundtrack....
The puzzles are not that hard and with a little of persistence could be solved...
You are going to need your package documents to be able to finish it...
The usual video codec to watch AVI movies is not good here...you need to uninstall it and instead to install CinePak Codec, otherwise the game will crash... ...

My final verdict : A dark mood atmospheric game that should be played at a gloomy rainy day for maximum effect...

Comment on Scribblenauts article:
Good writeup. This game is a thing of beauty when it works, and rage-quit inducing when it does not. All it needs really is failure without death so you can keep trying.

I quenched the thirst of a man in a desert with a waterfall, distracted policemen with donuts and climbed a shaft too high to fly with a rope tied to a ninja, then used my jet pack for the last stretch as I sent my unsuspecting human anchor plummeting down.

Maybe if they do a sequel they can refine the object behaviours a bit with correct physical behaviour (a hook should hook and an anchor should not be as light as the rope it's connected to) and add an option to lock Maxwell in place, or otherwise prevent unintended moves.

Just finished it...
It is actually more of a hidden object game suited for casual gamers who wants to keep their brain cells intact...There will be very little brain activity solving it,,,,
On a positive note The script, dialogues and voice acting are well done...
I would expect more rock songs from the soundtrack...You only get two songs to be played at the end of the game...During the rest of the game it is distrurbing silent....

My final verdict : I wasn't suffering nor bored here...
If you don't mind an easy game and the concept appeals to you, it is worth playing...

Comment on Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir article:
Hmm.. that game engine seems a bit outdated, no?
Feels a bit like playing some shareware game to me.
Comment on Tony Tough and the Night of the Roasted Moths scene of the week:
This game is so cool. A true oldschool adventure.
Comment on Scribblenauts article:
I wholeheartedly agree with every single point.

At first, it was really a "wow" experience, and I simply couldn't stop play, inventing, experimenting, etc. Then, after forty or more screens, I found myself using always bridge ladders, winged animals or helicopters and the fun quickly wore off. Still, the game is outstandingly original and, if the developers had put more work into weaving the challenges together, or into making the gameplay less repetitive, Scribblenauts could have been a masterpiece. As it is, it's only a good game that highly reward the player if he is creative and imaginative. And this is something that many adventures nowadays don't offer anymore. So my advice for adventure gamers is still to buy it and try it: if the game stops being fun and spellbinding after thirty hours (or even more), this is still way more than many AG today. And surely there's nothing out there like Scribblenauts.
Comment on Treasure Island article:
Seems TAC has it now, but I can't find it in any european places yet.
Comment on Deponia article:
Bah, it looks so good I could cry! And I haven't even played any Daedalic games yet! :'(

Don't want to play Whispered World in German, and I'm too clueless to figure out where I can get Edna and Harvey...
Comment on The Neverhood article:
I am glad, that this page is constantly writing 1st class reviews, when it comes to adventures. I've played this game with friends, when it came out and it was THE game, when talking about good games and it provided some inside jokes you could toss around now and then.
I miss just one thing here, and that's the soundtrack by Terry S. Taylor, which has also cult-status.
Also it has to be mentioned, that in the opening menu there's a 'making of' of the game and the clay settings, which is a never-seen featurette in games, even though this was made before movies were introduced in the dvd format to the public.
It should as well be known, that there`s a sequel, called Skullmonkeys, for the PS1, which is a jump and run and can't live up to The Neverhood, but has funny videos, nicely done claymation and another brilliant soundtrack by Terry S. Taylor.
Comment on Deponia article:
This is something to look forward to, very nice!
Comment on Casual adventuring: hidden object retail round-up article:
Really, really nice article! I'm currently playing Drawn: The Painted Tower and already feel hungry for more games in this genre. Prior to Drawn, I had never played a Hidden Object game before, thinking they'd be too simple or something. But I was wrong! I'm definitely gonna try some of the games featured in this article.
Comment on Machinarium article:
Have you guys all gone mental?

Yes, it is a cute original game. Yes, it deserves to be noticed. But 4.5 starts, nominating this the ultimate adventure game? Come on...
The sheer awkwardness and tediousness of the flash (flash!) interface merits this game 1 star less at least.

Some puzzles are refreshingly challenging, forcing you to think for once, but some left me completely dumbstruck even after consulting the in-game walkthrough. (You want me to do what? why? how?)

The lack of any spoken or written words, while not a bad idea on its own, unfortunately eliminates possibilities for in-game hints, so if you're stuck, there's nothing much you can do but glancing at the walkthrough...

Comment on Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir article:
The first 2 were great, just WAY too short.
Comment on Last Half of Darkness: Tomb of Zojir article:
The developer seems to have a thing for fake plastic spiders, since this was already part of the package for Romantic Blue. Strange idea recycling...
Comment on Faust: The Seven Games of the Soul scene of the week:
Despite a somewhat obscure puzzle design and some pixel hunting problems I enjoyed this one. Good writing, voice acting and graphic design as far as I can recall.
Comment on Jane Jensen video interview article:
And yet it may be the closest thing we will ever see to Gabriel Knight. Believe me: no one would be happier than me to know that a fourth game is in production, but we have also to face the fact that Activision is very different from Lucas and that, for Sierra, there isn't a company like Telltale where the employees are vastly ex-Lucas. Sadly, many x-Sierra employees have retired from the game business (like Ken and Roberta Williams, Al Lowe, Scott Murphy) or moved on to other projects, unrelated to their Sierra efforts (like Gano Haine, Lorelei Shannon or Josh Mandel). Moreover, maybe Gray Matter will be great in its own rights (I surely hope so) and, after a while, it won't elicit anymore comparisons with Gabriel Knight. All in all, while a GK4 would me more than happy, I think it's more constructive for us to put it aside for a while and start hoping that Gray Matter could be as successful as Gk was.
Comment on First trailer dealt for third Art of Murder adventure news post:
Yep, that's another one for me alright. I didn't like the trailer all that much though, as it seemed to be dragging for far too long. The shorter, more to-the-point (and yet more mysterious) trailer for Chronicles of Mystery: The Tree of Life left me with a better overall impression.

Regardless, I'm buying the two games.
Comment on Faust: The Seven Games of the Soul scene of the week:
Speaking of coincidences! I just started playing this game. From what I have seen the intro looks very promising. I haven't played more than a few minutes to see if the game functions a bit, but it seems to me that there is much left open to explore, you start by knowing...nothing, so it seems. Objectively, as you are supposed to be.
Comment on Jane Jensen video interview article:
Skipped to the part with THE question: Is there any chance of seeing a sequel in the GK series? and was feeling the hardship that Jane must have of letting that title go.
Well Sam and Max revivaled and even the Monkey Island series came back from the ashes. So I wouldn't give up on another GK title. Even if she has to pull the "GK is not in the title and the main character isn't called GK, but gameplay/style are the GK" trick.
GM is not going to be that title i'm afraid.
